Means of Egress and Fire Protection • They must be designed and approved for the specific fire they must extinguish. If the system is inoperable, employees must be informed so that precautions can be taken. They must have alarm systems that are distinctive and can be heard over ambient noise. When discharge could affect employee health, effective safeguards must be installed.

This must be continued until the first of these occurs: • The employee is recovered and able to return to the job, or • Effective measures are implemented that control the musculoskeletal disorder hazard to the extent the job does not pose a risk of harm to the employee even during the recovery period, or • There is a final medical determination that the employee is permanently unable to return to the job, or • Six months have passed. The employer may reduce his/her obligation to maintain the employee’s normal earnings, seniority, rights, and benefits by the amount the employee receives during the work restriction period from any of the following: worker’s compensation payments for lost earnings; payments for lost earnings from a compensation or insurance program that is publicly funded or funded by the employer; and income from employment with another employer made possible by virtue of the work restrictions.
