Pending the arrival of a true statesman, Plato now urges that any law-abiding, constitutional state should provide at least a measure of relief from the disordered practices of contemporary political communities. 27 Plato and Hegel: Reason, Redemption 23 The Laws, to a greater extent even than the Statesman, discloses Plato's readiness to engage in theorising the conditions of admittedly imperfect remedies for the troubles attending contemporary politics. Plato only permits himself a brief reference to the ideal of an enlightened autocrat having a completely free hand to arrange the political community along rational lines.

CONCLUSION Hegel's interpretation of Plato's political philosophy is not detachable from the organising principles of his own system. Hegel postulates the teleological goal of the historical process to be the absolute self-awareness of Spirit allegedly furnished by his own philosophy. Previous philosophies are held to be inexorably tied to the historic political communities in which they were developed and are viewed as constituting necessary, indispensable stages in the progressive development of truth.
