1½ yd. 3 yd. ) When I was trying to decide what to put on the back, I thought the obvious choice was to use the same fabrics as the top since I loved them so much, but a black and white fabric with a very large print caught my eye and I couldn’t get it out of my mind. I kept picturing that black and white print with decorative stitching across it in all my favorite bright colors. I decided I had to give it a try, and I used several different colors of rayon thread to do my quilting. I liked the results so much that I thought the best accent would be to use lots of bright fabric colors in the sashing.
The greens, rust, maroon and golden colors are soothing and the straight-line design conveys unity and balance. Many of the fabrics on the top have a “metallic” sheen to them, and I decided to repeat this element on the back, using just one single shimmery gold fabric. This makes a dramatic second quilt with the black sashing and black decorative stitches.
